For over 150 years, L'Ancienne École has been part of the heritage of Palau-del-Vidre, in the heart of the Pyrénées-Orientales, between Perpignan and the Côte Vermeille. Housed in a former village school built in 1868, our restaurant welcomes you to a place where history, authenticity and gastronomy come together naturally.

Since 2001, Baptiste and Émilie Gaillard have carried on the restaurant's philosophy: offering seasonal French cuisine, entirely homemade, prepared with fresh ingredients carefully selected from local producers.

Awarded the prestigious "Maître Restaurateur" title, L'Ancienne École showcases the richness of the region through a menu inspired by the seasons and local producers.

In the dining room, our team ensures you receive a warm and attentive welcome, in an authentic setting that blends exposed stone walls, a terrace, and a treed patio. Every meal is an invitation to share, relax and enjoy authentic French cuisine in a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

Always a delight for the taste buds! We have been there several times and have never been disappointed by the quality. The products are fresh and prepared with a precise knowledge of flavors, offering a result that is always stunning. The menu changes quite often, which allows you to discover new specialties even if you are accustomed to them, and then, some well-known classics remain on the menu all year round, like the timeless chocolate-covered biscuit that truly deserves its name…

The venues are also pleasant and diverse: an outdoor terrace, a veranda and an indoor space are offered, thus allowing all customers to be catered for.

A wonderful experience at the restaurant "L'ancienne école". Since there are no restaurants in Saint Cyprien that offer such great food, I went a little further in my search. Fifteen minutes away from there, we found our happy place.
Excellent service and delicious food, from the starters to the desserts.
We highly recommend and we will be back!

July 2026 update: This is the third consecutive year we've been here, and it's still as excellent as ever. The quality of the service remains impeccable. This time we ate inside: the building is really beautiful.
